The tides determine the start time
Following the success of last year, our CO2-neutral ship, De Vrijbuiter, is once again sailing its green and creative course along the meanders of the Scheldt and - new this year! - its tributaries. From June 24th to July 5th, it will dock in various municipalities for a charming riverside concert, which can be listened to for free from the shore.
De Vrijbuiter is a more than hundred-year-old, climate-neutral sailing ship, equipped with solar panels, a wind turbine and an electric motor that runs on salt batteries. Once again this year, the captain has curated a refined selection of exceptional artists from various genres on board: from spoken word to opera and flamenco. All hands on deck for beautiful music at idyllic locations on the water!
Word and voice artist Ella Michiels and exceptional guitarist Wido Uvin are a match made in theatre heaven, and have already created a number of remarkable performances together. Especially for the STROOM concerts on the riverbank, they put together an atmospheric programme that includes poems and stories about travelling and sailing. Ella’s great passion for text and Wido’s guitar playing – he experiments with all manner of musical genres on the classical guitar – are the perfect combination. They are one another’s soundtrack: Wido listens to Ella and accompanies her words with music, Ella listens to Wido and moves along with the music. A symbiosis of word and sound. Their secret recipe: setting letters, texts and stories to music without making them into songs. In Ella’s words: these are ‘word art musical compositions’.

- Teaches in Aalst at the Academy of Performing Arts in the spoken word-drama department
Wido Uvin, guitar
- Is a guitar player and composer
- Plays electrical and acoustic guitar
- Is skilled in several genres
- Received his masters classical guitar in Ghent
- Teaches at several academies for performance arts in Flanders
- Previously created the performance Brieven aan mijn lieven with Ella Michiels
