Sustainability
Festival STROOM sprouts in the Scheldt Valley. We start from the silt of the river and use nature as source of inspiration. The entire Festival focuses on nature and climate, literally through the choice of the concert locations in the Scheldt Valley, but also figuratively in its artistic programme. In that way, we sensitise the audience about current climate issues in an accessible way.
With that in mind, it goes without saying that, as a festival itself, we treat our environment with respect. We strive to leave as small an ecological footprint as possible on the site, as well as a large musical footprint in the Scheldt Valley National Park!

STROOM is part of...

Based on an action plan grounded in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, we are taking steps toward a structured, transparent, and sustainable approach that is supported by the entire team. Through the VOKA Charter for Sustainable Entrepreneurship, we are guided in this process, and in 2025 we were recognized as an SDG Pioneer for structurally embedding sustainability within our organization. Read more about it here.

Since 2024, STROOM has been part of SUSTAFEST, an organization that brings together festivals and experts to make the future of (music) festivals more sustainable. With seven leading ambassador festivals, they explore the key challenges. The collaboration has grown into a platform and podcast that other organizers can draw inspiration from.
