The tides determine the start time

Following the success of our CO²-neutral ship, De Vrijbuiter, last year, it will again be wending it green and creative way along the meanders of the Scheldt, and – new this year! – its tributaries. From 24 June to 5 July inclusive, it will be mooring in different municipalities for an atmospheric concert on the riverbank, free to listen to from the bank.

De Vrijbuiter is a more than a hundred-year-old, climate-neutral sailing ship, which is fitted with solar panels, a wind turbine and an electric motor that runs on salt batteries. This year too, the captain again has a carefully chosen selection of exceptional artists from different genres on board: from word art to opera and flamenco. All hands on deck for beautiful music at idyllic locations on the water!

These two virtuoso sopranos are among Ukraine’s leading artists. Olga was working as a soloist at Kiev opera when the war broke out, and Anastasia was a student at the conservatory there. In the meantime, both singers have fled Kiev and are linked to La Monnaie in Brussels. For their concert on the riverbank, they take with them a highly varied programme of songs, arias and duets about nature, that inexhaustible source of inspiration for numerous composers. From the famous flower duet from Léo Delibes’ opera Lakmé, to the evergreen Summer time from Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin. With their golden voices, Olga and Anastasia mesmerise their audience time and time again.
