Stegreif – the ‘improvisational orchestra’ – is a unique symphonic adventure. Some thirty young musicians with a strong social commitment play with neither a conductor, nor sheet music, and are free to improvise and move during the performance. With their unique approach, they embody the change that they believe the world so greatly needs.
Their Symphony of Change invites the audience to contribute to this. The performance traces a great arc across the work of four composers, from the thirteenth to the nineteenth century: Hildegard van Bingen, Wilhelmine van Bayreuth, Clara Schumann and Emilie Mayer. Five female musicians from the orchestra weld a series of these women’s exquisite works into an original symphony and weave a new thread through musical history. Warning: all genre boundaries between classical, contemporary and jazz are breached.
