Les Âmes Perdues

Les Âmes Perdues

Les Âmes Perdues does not excavate with shovel and boots, but with voice, accordion, cello, piano, and recorder. For this creation, the Antwerp-based music theatre trio delves into the history of De Notelaer and the River Scheldt.

During a musical guided tour around the pavilion, we walk, listen, and discover what the river has carried along for centuries. From Tylman Susato to Edith Piaf, from Boudewijn de Groot to Boris Vian: an idiosyncratic soundscape that washes ashore along the banks of the Scheldt.

Welcome to STROOM!

STROOM is celebrating its fifth edition this year, our first milestone anniversary!

We are marking the occasion not with fireworks and cream cake, but with the rich and inspiring programme you have come to expect from us, placing sustainability, nature, water, and the beautiful Scheldt Valley National Park at its heart. This year’s festival features several world premieres, classical and contemporary music, poetry and architecture, concerts, walks, and rituals.

This year, Jeroen Olyslaegers joins us as our Festival Thinker. His boundless creativity runs like a thread throughout the programme. We are also delighted to welcome the world of science to STROOM through a first collaboration with the University of Antwerp.

STROOM is firmly on course and has exciting plans for the future. We warmly thank all our partners who, together with us and the Scheldt Valley National Park, help make this festival such a celebration. We invite everyone to be part of it.

Why not make a weekend of it? Alongside the music, discover walking and cycling routes, boating opportunities, heritage sites, museums, and local culinary specialities.

The entire STROOM team is ready to welcome you.

Welcome in Bornem!

This is the fifth edition of STROOM, and for the fifth time we are dropping anchor in Bornem. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this special stop at De Notelaer pavilion, a place where our municipality and the River Scheldt meet at their very best. As soon as the sun appears, it becomes a favourite destination for walkers, cyclists, and lovers of life alike.

The pavilion itself has a remarkable story. It has adorned the dike since the 18th century and owes its name to an impressive walnut tree that once served as a landmark for passing sailors. On the ground floor, a ferry service and inn operated, while upstairs the d’Ursel family welcomed guests to dine with views over the Scheldt. It is a place that has long been full of life, and today, also full of music.

It is therefore especially fitting to welcome the Antwerp-based music theatre trio Les Âmes Perdues here. Through their musical guided tour, they invite us to discover De Notelaer and its surroundings with fresh eyes and ears, and to enjoy the beautiful interplay between nature, heritage, and imagination.

I wish you a warm and inspiring concert. Enjoy the music, the Scheldt, and everything that makes this place so special.

See you in Bornem!

Greet De Bruyn
Mayor of Bornem

What can you expect?

It promises to be a delightful journey. For the musical part, we drew inspiration from the rich history of De Notelaer and its surrounding, drawing on numerous historical sources as well as our own reflections on the ever-changing landscape. The result is a diverse programme that explores a variety of musical genres.
