20.06 - 22.06 Plastique Fantastique

For STROOM, the international artists' collective Plastique Fantastique, in collaboration with Gluon, developed a spatial installation in the polders of Kruibeke. The public was invited to enter a giant structure on the banks of the Scheldt – a sculpture that breathes, sounds and moves.

Inside you could find two large plastic layers, like rings around each other. Each ring is made of a different kind of plastic – from classic fossil to modern bioplastic. Together, they tell the story of how we are evolving in our use of raw materials: from polluting industry to a future with more focus on recycling and cycles.
Balancing between art, science and alchemy, the installation was accompanied by a soundscape in which nature and culture merge.

You could visit the installation during the entire weekend. On Saturday 21 June, we activated the installation with a lecture, a walk led by systems ecologist Patrick Meire, and a performance by Plastique Fantastique.
