During a guided tour, the unique atmosphere of Roosenberg Abbey is revealed. The architecture of Dom Hans van der Laan, the daily life of the sisters, and the harmonious balance between architecture and spirituality take center stage.

Afterwards, the Ragazze Quartet presents Memories of Trees in the abbey garden. In this green setting, a musical visual narrative unfolds about the unique types of wood from which the string instruments are made. In collaboration with composer Kate Moore and audiovisual artist Jurjen Alkema, a layered performance emerges in which image and sound converge. In doing so, our deep connection to nature, craftsmanship and fragile ecosystems becomes tangible.

Science

Dendrochronology: the wondrous world of trees. In collaboration with the University of Antwerp.

Curious about the hidden life of trees? Discover it together with the scientists from the University of Antwerp.

At their stand, you’ll learn all about dendrochronology, the field of science that studies tree rings to uncover a tree’s life story. Using various samples, researchers will explain how trees grow, what they have experienced, and what we can learn from them.

Join in as a tree sample is taken on site to better understand its living conditions. Don’t worry: no trees will be harmed!

Afterwards, let yourself be carried away by a musical story set among the trees: a unique experience where nature, science, and music come together.

The University of Antwerp stand will be present when the doors open. You can follow the information session before the start of the architecture walk or WALD performance. There will be a live sample collection at 20:30.
