Riverside Concert: Duo Tokár
- Assistentiehond toegelaten
- Rolstoeltoegankelijk
Duo Tokár was founded in 2021 by clarinetist Emile Souvagie and guitarist Hannelore Vander Elst, rooted in a long-standing friendship. The name of the duo refers to the Spanish verb ‘tocar’, meaning to play, to touch, and to move.
The distinctive combination of clarinet and guitar offers a rich and versatile sonic palette, which the duo draws upon for a broad repertoire. Their program brings together music by Béla Bartók, Manuel de Falla, Guillaume Lekeu, and Heitor Villa-Lobos, alongside works by Astor Piazzolla and Toots Thielemans. Folk melodies, classical forms, and jazz colors stand side by side in a program that builds bridges between continents and genres: from Europe to South America, from classical to jazz.
Programme
Our partner for this riverside concert, VVW Moerzeke, is organizing several activities before the event begins. The clubhouse will be open from 2 PM, where you can continuously enjoy a film about the history of De Kille and a photo exhibition showcasing the most beautiful spots along the Scheldt.
Throughout the entire afternoon and evening, you can also visit the dike terrace for a drink!
A climate story
In the Scheldt, both visible and invisible yet persistent pollutants drift along with the current: plastic particles of all sizes. These particles make their way into the water and travel upstream from the Port of Antwerp all the way to Ghent. Researchers from the University of Antwerp are closely monitoring this phenomenon. With multiple measurement locations along the river, they map the presence and distribution of plastics.
Visitors will have the opportunity to take a closer look at these measurements before or after the concert and to search for plastics in a sample themselves. There, they can see with their own eyes how much plastic continuously circulates in the water. Researchers from the University of Antwerp will provide further insight into the impact of this pollution on the Scheldt’s ecosystem.
